So sorry, I’ve been away for so long. I’ve been pre-occupied doing research for upcoming Polaroid transfers class that I’m teaching at Flatbed Press. I’ve recently become completely swept back into photography, which is my first love. I’ve always been a medium-format kinda girl. I unfortunately had to sell my Kowa (boo, hoo), but I still have my beloved Holga, for which I finally got a polaroid back. I also recently acquired a Polaroid Propack which is my newest and funnest toy. I’ve been uploading (like crazy) all of my experiments with polaroids and transfer to my flickr account . All this shooting, has left me a small mountain of empty Polaroid cartridges. I thought, “I have to find something to do w/those.” So far, I’ve come up w/ this fridge magnet pen holder. Let me know if you have any other ideas.
Also, this weekend we celebrated my birthday in which I turned 29 for the 4th year in a row! Amazing! My sweet husband and daughter bought me this awesome cake! It’s not just pretty, it was tasty too!
Back to the subject of the Holga, I just wanted to point-out that I beleive that Mat Kearney is using a Holga in his video for “Undeniable”. I’d heard that he was a photographer, so I just wanted to say that I think that’s really cool. You know something is at the peak of trendy when A. it’s on VH1 and B. it’s being sold at Urban Outfitters.
As for Polaroid, my research has led me to knowledge that they are really downsizing and discontinuing a lot of their great, classic products! I just hope they continue to make film because it’s such a staple in the photo world. For myself, I can say that I have so much nostalgia and sentimental feelings tied-up in Polaroid pictures. I WAS happy to hear that the Zink is supposed to be released soon, but sad that Polaroid was not going to be releasing it. Oh, well I still hope to be one of the first to get one, as believe they will be huge!
Finally, I went to see the Drive-By press at Slugfest this weekend. Even though, I thought it was really cool, I was not jealous of those guys standing outside in 90 degree weather (yes, it’s still friggin 90 degrees in Austin) printing $10.00 T-shirts. I’m still getting over my high expectations of Austin. I just have to keep remembering that I’m not a happy trot from the Smithsonian anymore.
That being said, I WILL say that there is almost nothing easier than taking good street photos in DT Austin. Every corner is covered w/ a mural or there will be a street-musician or something else going on. If it’s happenin’, then it’s happenin’ here.
Best,
Amy
