I recently learned that the Smithsonian’s African Museum of Art had acquired the Tishman/Walt Disney Collection that had been stored in a vault somewhere for several years (W.P. Article). Since my recent obsession with mask/costume and make-up I decided to go to site and take a look at the collection. OH MY Goodness! They are amazing! When living in DC I visited the African Museum several times and was always amazed, but these pieces will take your breath away!

Also, I recently saw the movie Apocalypto (the director of the RYCF program recommended it because of the tattoos and body adornment lesson that I taught the kids). Say what you want about Mel Gibson, but the costume in this movie was amazing. I really don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like it. It really inspired me, so I recommend it for it’s aesthetics. There’s also alot of really cool weapons and gory special effects (go figure, it’s Mel Gibson). Best!
