Craft Chi

I decided to try and revamp these yellow Chuck Taylor’s that I’ve had for about 2 years. Here’s my process.

Sneaks - Before

Sneaks - After

1. Prep shoes – Remove shoe laces, unless you want them dyed.

2. Place shoes in dyebath – I used Procian MX turquoise, which mixed with the yellow and turned green. The insides of the shoes turned the color of the dye because they were white.

Dyebath

3. Clip edges and place in dryer – Edges can be clipped prior to dyeing. Placing shoes in the dryer, heat-sets the dye and frays the edges

Clip edges

4. Print and cut out iron-on design – My designs were very detailed and I’m not a perfectionist, so I did leave some white in my image.

5. Iron designs onto shoe – Remove backing paper from iron-on. Drape the shoe over your iron board and cover with protective paper. Iron according to directions.

6. Sharpie over pin stripe color – I did this to my shoes, because the yellow pin stripes looked really out of place. But I think it would look alot better if I didn’t need to do this step.

I saw these on craftster, this is so cool! You did them beautifully!! I’ve just thrown mine away because they were a bit ‘tired’ looking, I wish I hadn’t now!!! Brilliant! I’ll definately try this one day. Thanks so much for sharing.

Very cool! I was just oogling some new sneakers from Steve Madden and others in the store and trying to justify the cost. Now you have given me inspiration to do my own and have a one-of-a-kind shoe.

Check thrift stores before you shell out the $30 bucks for a new pair.

I saw these months ago when I “stumbledupon” them; then I found them again when I found your latest crafty post the same way and went back to the old ones. I’ve got to say you’re ideas are AWESOME. I’ve never found a craft blog I liked better! And I’ve seen a lot!
Plus these shoes are…. sooo…. cute.

That is the best idea ever, I never thought of revamping shoes. This is a really cool idea for someone like myself that can’t find womens shoes in their size, because you could do the same thing to a pair of mens shoes. I am gonna have to try this with some of my shoes. Thanks for the inspiration.
