Okay, so I’ve been addicted to magnet bookmarks since I got some in my stocking a couple of Christmas’ ago. Recently I was tidying up the insane magnet situation on my fridge and realized I could re-use ad and calendar magnets to make my beloved bookmarks.

Supplies:
- Scissors or craft knife
- Sheet magnet
- Tape
Optional:
- label paper or adhesive-backed scrapbook paper
- rubber stamps and ink
- corner punch and small shape punches

1. Cut Magnet in Half

2. Position magnet pieces together. Make sure the magnet pieces stick together properly and then trim to size while they are together.

3. Use tape as a hinge. Place a small piece of tape or label paper over one end of the magnets (still together) to act as a hinge.

4. Use a corner punch to round edges if desired. You can also use small shape punches to create window/punch outs in your bookmark.

5. Alternately, use label paper as a hinge. I printed a plaid pattern from my digital scrapbook background paper. Trim to label size.

6. Stamp a small design on your bookmark as an added embellishment.

very cute idea, I think I might have to make some of these. I noticed you live in Austin, I lived there for 7 years and loved it. I miss it and all the great friends I made while living there. I don’t miss the heat and CRAZY weather though, lol.
These are too cute and even practical! I too have reused commercial magnets. I was thinking that you could cut these into cute shapes for kids – dinosaurs, cupcakes, whatever and this is something you could also do with the kids. Great post. Love your blog.

Thank goodness. I hate to throw them away (& haven’t) but had no idea how to use them. Stocking stuffers, here I come.
I can totally see how those would be addicting, I love this project! I’ll be linking.
Thanks Rachel. I use them in my cookbooks, in my craft books. I have them all over the place.
I love bookmarks and despite my extensive collection, I always feel the need for more. I’m going to give your tutorial a try. Thank you so much for sharing it with us.
Well these are the coolest things ever! Thanks for the tutorial!
Awesome idea…and I love magnetic bookmarks! Thanks for sharing your tutorial. I will get started on these straight a way!
These look great, but, and this is admittedly based purely on intuition, wouldn’t two sheets of even thin magnetic sheet be quite a thick bookmark?
Do they result in stressed covers / spines? I might have to make a couple to try it out myself.
I’m a little late jumping on this one, but I LOVE it! Had to make one immediately, and it took me only 17 minutes start to finish, including gathering the supplies! Thanks so much for the tutorial. I put a link on my blog.
Oh, and it was surprisingly thin when finished. So to answer the last commenter, it’s not too thick at all.
Sounds fun! Thanks for sharing your project! Maybe I can make these with the budding artists/readers in my house.
Love your project. I am featuring magnets today on The Persimmon Perch and I have included your project. Hopefully people will come to your site and check it out!
Thanks for the tip! I was actually looking for paper bookmark templates when I stumbled upon this page. This is simpler and more effective!
Yay! This is great, thank you for posting the instructions on how to make these bookmarks. I have thousands of round-corner magnets from calendar pop-outs, it looks like I’ll finally be able to put them to good use!
amazing idea! i have a bunch of those magnet things and now i finally know what to do with them. and the fact that i collect bookmarks is just a plus!
thanks so much for the great idea!
