Craft Chi

Okay, so I’ve been addicted to magnet bookmarks since I got some in my stocking a couple of Christmas’ ago.  Recently I was tidying up the insane magnet situation on my fridge and realized I could re-use ad and calendar magnets to make my beloved bookmarks.

Magnet Bookmarks

Supplies:

- Scissors or craft knife

- Sheet magnet

- Tape

Optional:

- label paper or adhesive-backed scrapbook paper

- rubber stamps and ink

- corner punch and small shape punches

2. Position magnet pieces together.  Make sure the magnet pieces stick together properly and then trim to size while they are together.

3. Use tape as a hinge. Place a small piece of tape or label paper over one end of the magnets (still together) to act as a hinge.

4. Use a corner punch to round edges if desired. You can also use small shape punches to create window/punch outs in your bookmark.

5. Alternately, use label paper as a hinge. I printed a plaid pattern from my digital scrapbook background paper. Trim to label size.

6. Stamp a small design on your bookmark as an added embellishment.

very cute idea, I think I might have to make some of these. I noticed you live in Austin, I lived there for 7 years and loved it. I miss it and all the great friends I made while living there. I don’t miss the heat and CRAZY weather though, lol.

These are too cute and even practical! I too have reused commercial magnets. I was thinking that you could cut these into cute shapes for kids – dinosaurs, cupcakes, whatever and this is something you could also do with the kids. Great post. Love your blog.

Thank goodness. I hate to throw them away (& haven’t) but had no idea how to use them. Stocking stuffers, here I come.

These look great, but, and this is admittedly based purely on intuition, wouldn’t two sheets of even thin magnetic sheet be quite a thick bookmark?

Do they result in stressed covers / spines? I might have to make a couple to try it out myself.

I’m a little late jumping on this one, but I LOVE it! Had to make one immediately, and it took me only 17 minutes start to finish, including gathering the supplies! Thanks so much for the tutorial. I put a link on my blog.

Oh, and it was surprisingly thin when finished. So to answer the last commenter, it’s not too thick at all.

Thanks for the tip! I was actually looking for paper bookmark templates when I stumbled upon this page. This is simpler and more effective!
